PeopleSoft Data Conversion Process
Call
us weird, but our favorite task is doing a database conversion.
Why? Well, it gives us a chance to show off our proven PeopleSoft
Data Conversion Process, described below. The process was developed
and refined during years of hands-on PeopleSoft data conversion
projects. The process consists of two phases.
Phase I - Legacy data evaluation
The first step is to perform a thorough data evaluation and data
mapping of the legacy system. This task will provide information
needed to develop the conversion framework and estimate the Phase
II completion date. Our consultant use the results of data evaluation
and data mapping to provide recommendations for validation scripts
to ensure that the legacy data is clean and suitable for conversion.
Phase II - Preparation of data for conversion
Once the conversion framework is in place, we begin building tables
required for the conversion, writing SQL scripts (and stored procedures
if necessary) to convert the legacy data, performing the conversion
and providing the converted data to the developers of the new system.
Critical success factors
The databases native tools (i.e. bulk loader, Transact-SQL) will
be used to take advantage of their processing speed due to the minimal
traffic of data packets over TCP/IP. Although every database has
its unique set of tools, weve studied them and uncovered ways
to use them, and therefore, are available at no extra cost to the
client. Plus, since the tools are native to the database server,
conversion times are significantly faster than using third-party
tools.
The data maps, which are produced during Phase I of the process,
are very clearly defined, so functional users can refer to them
to better understand the conversion process. They will also serve
as documentation for future conversion efforts.
