PeopleSoft Database Validation & Cleanup
Did you know that hundreds of errors could be introduced into
a PeopleSoft system during regular use?
The
data in your PeopleSoft system is one of your company's most important
assets and it requires regular maintenance. Whether you are planning
to migrate to PeopleSoft 8 or trying to get the most out of your
current system, your company depends on valid data.
How are database integrity errors introduced?
PeopleSoft data can be corrupted in many ways including; improper
use of "correction mode," running faulty interfaces or processes
(SQRs, etc.) and performing ad hoc updates to the system data using
SQL. Each of these can bypass PeopleCode and the Application Processor
logic, which works to validate system data during normal use.
Data validation errors can be found in all PeopleSoft systems.
Some errors are probably never noticed and produce no adverse effect
on the production system. However, other errors might produce nuisances
like crashing a panel or slowing down your system. More critical
errors may produce incorrect results in reports, interfaces and
online panels without any indication that there is a problem.
What steps do I follow to fix data integrity problems?
Hickert Consulting has a three-step process to identify and correct
your data errors.
Step I - Validate record definitions and relationships
We have developed a toolset that we use to fully validate your
data. Once we finish with the validation we will provide you with
comprehensive reports pinpointing the problem areas in your PeopleSoft
data.
Step II - Help prioritize error correction and define an action
plan
The next step is evaluation and prioritization of data errors uncovered
in Step I. We will schedule corrections according to your priority
while guiding you through the changes that require top priority
due to system requirements.
Step III - Corrections and mass changes
Some corrections will be very simple and only require on-line changes.
Others may be very complex, requiring SQL scripts or full-blown
programs. The latter are sometimes known as "mass changes" because
the extent of the error requires programmatic corrections. We will
perform an impact analysis, where necessary, in order to fully define
the effect of each problem and ultimately reduce the risk of a correction
causing further errors. Hickert has adopted a mass change process
that is extremely diligent in backing up data and documenting every
step of the process. We won't take chances with you're data.
